The students selected to the All-County Chorus include: Cheyenne Gaither, 6^th grade; Lynassa Lugay; Cassie Praino, 6^th grade; and Christina Zengin-Karaian, 5^thgrade. All of the students were auditioned by their teacher, Tim Brown. They will perform in the elementary grades (4-6) category.

“Out of all the students that were auditioned, these four young ladies were chosen for their pureness of pitch, clarity of sound and the wideness of their vocal range. They will certainly be an asset to the Chorus,” said Mr. Brown.

Students selected to the All-County Band include: Corey Field, trumpet, 6^th grade; and Rachel Jessamy, saxophone, 6^th grade. They auditioned Dec.10 at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School in Croton-on-Hudson. They will perform with the elementary grades (4-6) All-County Band. Allison Shapiro is their school band director.

“Both Rachel and Corey are very dedicated students,” said Ms. Shapiro. “They come to rehearsals, attend lessons and practice on a regular basis. It is a tremendous accomplishment to be chosen for this festival.”

The WCSMA is a unit of the New York State School Music Association, and represents over 450 music educators from 55 school districts, including private and parochial schools.

Lastly, we have posted two new elementary math modules on the EngageNY site at: http://engageny.org/resource/curriculum-exemplars/

The squad, which consists of Marissa Alicea, Angelene Dimaano, Kazia Garvey, Robin Jessamy, Sandra Mojica, Karen Orzuna, and Daisy Pogyo, was the first female team from Hamilton to win such a title in 14 years. Their victory came at the State meets held Nov. 12 in Verona, New York.

“It was satisfying to get so far,” said Coach Jim Aiello, who also coaches boys cross country. “Our goal for the girls’ team is to try and repeat our performance as sectional champs next year and to compete more aggressively in the next championship meet in Buffalo.”

On the individual level, Jason Ortiz also competed. Coach Aiello said Jason finished in the middle of the pack against the state’s top Class D runners, despite adverse weather conditions that day.

The team played their hearts out last Saturday, only to lose 2-1 in two overtimes. A recent Journal news article recounted the team’s efforts, including the first goal that was secured by their opponents. Stellar play by midfielder Melvyn Huaman and a game-tying goal that was scored by sophomore Edisson Moscoso made for an exciting game.

While it looked positive for the Raiders toward the end, Port Jefferson’s best player, who is heading to Penn State University to play soccer this fall, secured a goal with only nine minutes to go in the second overtime. The goal ended any aspirations the Raiders might have had of gaining a state title. However, noted Segaloff, garnering the first section title in 29 years is certainly something to applaud.

“This year we had some quality players,” said Segaloff, who’s been coaching the soccer squad at AHHS for the past seven years. “I’m really proud of what they did. They didn’t quit, they fought right up to the end, and most importantly, they held their heads high with pride.”

Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics Robert Pollok also expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. “I’m very proud of the effort these young men put forth this year. They have left a legacy behind that will change the landscape of Hamilton soccer for years to come.”
